Shabbat-friendly hotel checklist
Policies vary by property and can change. Before booking, ask the hotel these questions:
  • Room key: Can they provide a mechanical key (not only a magnetic card)?
  • Elevators: If you need an elevator, ask if there is a Shabbat mode (or plan stairs).
  • Low floor option: Ask for a low floor if you need, although Playa doesn't have high rise building
  • Doors/lights: Do doors require electronic sensors? Are lights motion-activated in hallways?
  • Late checkout: If you need it after Shabbat, confirm availability in writing.
  • Location: Stay in Centro if you want to be walking distance.

1) Playa del Carmen “Centro”
Best choice for walking to Chabad. Many options from budget to luxury.

2) Playacar (Fase 1 & 2)
Great resorts and gated communities. Typically 10–35 minutes walking to Chabad, depending on exact location.
Popular option
Playacar Palace — close to the Centro / beach zone
If your hotel is in Playacar, plan your Shabbat walking route before Shabbat (gates, entry points, shortcuts can vary).
 
3) Riviera Maya (Highway 307: Cancun–Tulum)
These hotels are generally not walking distance and usually require a 10–30 minute drive to Chabad.
